Watch the High Grossing Movies of 2014 in High Definition

In cinema there are movies and there are blockbusters. Certain movies are made specifically to pack the theatres on opening weekend. These movies are financed by large conglomerates and spend hundreds of millions in hopes of attracting large crowds during the holidays. They are generally more drama or action-based and lead the way in movie-based technology.

If you are interested in being blown away by special effects and cinematography, then start with the highest-grossing films of 2009. They are sure to provide an entertaining experience. Be sure to watch them in high definition from the comfort of your own home with the help of satellite television.

The fifth highest domestic-grossing film of 2009 is Up, earning just over $293 million in theaters, $68 million on opening weekend in the United States. In the same line as prior animated movies such as Wall-E and Finding Nemo, Up was created by Disney/Pixar. This brand has certainly caught hold of the movie industry, as it somehow manages to appeal to children and adults alike.

The fourth highest domestic-grossing film is The Twilight Saga: New Moon raking in nearly $297 million total in theaters, with an astonishing opening weekend of $143 million. Speaking of branding, the Twilight Series has certainly become a brand in and of itself. Based off the wildly popular Twilight book series written by Stephenie Meyer, these movies are gold. Packed with a hip soundtrack and sharp filming, this movie is certainly a good flick to watch in HD.

The third highest domestic-grossing film of 2009 is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It collected a total of $302 million in theaters and opened with $78 million. Notice a theme? So far the highest-grossing movies are about branding, the ever-important feature of most blockbuster movies today. Harry Potter is certainly no different. The six Harry Potter movies combined have grossed a total of $1.71 billion in the United States alone, and two more are scheduled to open over the next 18 months.

Second place goes to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which earned $402 million total with $109 million in its opening weekend. Mix sports cars with saving mankind. It equals a movie mixture that was hugely popular in 2009. This is a movie that simply must be seen in high definition. Jam-packed with fight scenes and things blowing up, there is no better way to watch it. The Transformer brand seems strong as ever.

Finally, the highest domestic grossing film of 2009 was Avatar. While it only managed $77 million in its opening weekend, it grossed a total of $745 million in theaters across the United States. Worldwide, Avatar grossed a $2.7 billion, making it the highest-grossing movie ever, beating second-place Titanic by nearly $1 billion. Unlike the previous three movies mentioned, Avatar was popular because it had no brand other than, of course, the powerful name of director James Cameron. Avatar was unique because it mixed blockbuster movie watching with 3D technology, something that Cameron waited years for in order to make this movie. He wanted the technology to exist in enough theaters worldwide before he made the movie. It seems to have paid off, literally.

Watch these movies in high definition and you will surely have a movie theater experience. You will see why these are the five highest-grossing movies of 2009.
